The Parent Network of WNY has announced its upcoming workshops in Niagara County during the month of February. Parents and families who have children and/or young adults with special needs are encouraged to attend. These workshops will provide useful information, tips and strategies. All workshops offered are free for families of individuals with disabilities and include:
Paper Chase … Organizing all your Stuff for the Special Education Parent
Participants will learn about which papers or documents to keep, organizing tips and how having the right paper at their fingertips can lead to a successful education plan.The workshop will be held from 6:30-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 1, at Empower (formerly Niagara Cerebral Palsy), 9812 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls.
Prepare for a Meeting
Parents and individuals with disabilities will have the opportunity to participate in various meetings with professionals throughout the school year, including the annual Committee on Special Education. Participants will walk away with tips on how to be prepared, organized and a powerful advocate.The workshop will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Orleans-Niagara BOCES Conference Center, 4124 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn.
What to do about Challenging Behavior in the Home and Community
The purpose of this workshop is to help parents recognize the early signs of conflict and implement strategies that can manage the conflict in a proactive way to prevent it from turning into a full-blown storm.The workshop will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 25, at Wayne A. Secord Therapeutic Preschool, 6395 Old Niagara Road, Lockport.
