Opinion: Unfair to raise pay for just fast food workers #disability #disabilities #wny

The Governor’s Fast Food Wage Board is considering recommending a wage increase for workers in the food service industry to a minimum of $15 per hour. This is a laudable effort to recognize that these workers should be paid a living wage, and I believe the discussion should not be limited to the food service industry. New Yorkers working in other fields face the same challenges trying to raise families. A number of these workers are employed by agencies that are funded by New York state to provide services and supports to individuals with various challenges and vulnerabilities, specifically developmental disabilities, mental health needs, substance abuse disorders, homelessness and those involved with child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
