Lackawanna native Ron Jaworski held his annual golf outing today in East Aurora, raising money for Baker Victory Services. The ESPN analyst also weighed in on the Bills quarterback situation.
“My gut reaction is that Matt Cassel will win the job, but that’s not to say that EJ Manuel going to back down and not improve,” said Jaworski.
Jaws pointed out Manuel’s accuracy as the key factor that could earn him the job – if he shows enough improvement. Either way, despite all the offseason moves, Jaworski says it is vital for the Bills to pick the right man for the job.
“It’s much more difficult to be a playoff contender, or a playoff team or a Super Bowl contender, or a Super Bowl team unless you get consistent quarterback play week in and week out. And I’m talking about 65 snaps a game over a 16 game schedule and the playoffs. You can’t have a quarterback that turns the ball over, you can’t have a quarterback that makes mistakes. Now, you don’t necessarily have to throw 40 touchdown passes, but you can’t throw interceptions,” said Jaworski.
He also said expects big things from LeSean McCoy this season, with a run-heavy attack featuring the new Bills running back.
