“Earth Day in May” celebration is Saturday – City & Region – The Buffalo News

It is estimated that Americans discard more than 70 pounds of clothing per person each year, on average – materials that can be reused or recycled rather than going to landfills. The Western New York Coalition for Donated Goods and Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve are encouraging area residents who are spring cleaning to help them celebrate “Earth Day in May” on Saturday by taking their unwanted textiles, including clothing, bedding and other cloth items, to the preserve, 93 Honorine Drive, Depew, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., or to one of the collection sites around the county.

Other drop-off sites are Buffalo & Erie County Public Library locations in Orchard Park, S-4570 South Buffalo St.; West Seneca, 1300 Union Road; and Grand Island, 1715 Bedell Road.

Donations also can be made at the Bidwell Parkway and Elmwood Avenue park space which also is accepting bicycles, and Martin Luther King Jr. Park at the Fillmore Avenue entrance.

The City of Buffalo Engineering Garage, 1120 Seneca St., and Niagara Falls Fashion Outlet, near Saks Fifth Avenue, are accepting donations until 2 p.m.

The coalition for donated goods includes Goodwill Industries of WNY, the Salvation Army of Buffalo, Buffalo City Mission, AMVETS, Hearts for the Homeless of WNY and St. Vincent DePaul.
