The Niagara Area Foundation announced this week that eight grants totaling more than $50,000 have been approved for not-for-profit organizations in Niagara County.
The recipients were the Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center, Family and Children’s Service of Niagara, the Francis Center, the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls clubs, the Salvation Army of Lockport, Youth Mentoring Services of Niagara County and the YWCA of the Tonawandas.
The foundation council’s chairman, Michael A. Piette, said the foundation has distributed more than $1 million since it was founded in 2000 as a division of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
The foundation also announced that Melissa Morinello of Niagara Falls, owner of Sparkle Marketing and Events, has been chosen the foundation treasurer, and Janice Flood Nichols of Lockport, a medical counselor, has been chosen secretary. Newly named to the board are former North Tonawanda Police Chief Randy Szukala, Bruce Elliott of Wheatfield and Charles Wright and Michael Gold of Niagara Falls.
