Exhibit to open at Museum of disABILITY History – City & Region – The Buffalo News

The Grand Opening of the exhibit “The Lives They Left Behind” at the Museum of disABILITY History, 3826 Main St., is at 6 p.m. Feb. 27. Tickets are $25 and include wine and hors d’oeuvres.

When the Willard Psychiatric Center in the Finger Lakes region closed in 1995, hundreds of old suitcases were found in the attic. Most were filled with the most important belongings of their former owners, telling the stories of the lives they left behind when they entered the center. They present tales of dreams and futures unfulfilled, of loss and isolation, and of the lives they abandoned when they walked through the doors.
