Water Authority to provide jobs for five developmentally disabled workers – City & Region – The Buffalo News

Five developmentally disabled workers will have jobs performing maintenance and grounds-keeping on properties owned by the Erie County Water Authority this spring as a result of a new service contract between the authority and New York State Industries for the Disabled.

The 2½-year agreement was unanimously approved by the three-member board of the water authority at a recent business meeting. The contract takes effect on April 15 and expires on Nov. 15, 2017.

New York State Industries for the Disabled, or NYSID, is a statewide agency that provides employment to people with disabilities through the state’s 40-year-old Preferred Source Program.

Allentown Industries will employ five workers from its Supported Employment Program to service the contract with the water authority.
